Celebrated as the first Haida language film ever made, this folk horror story is set in the 1850’s on the remote archipelago of Haida Gwaii off the coast of British Columbia, Canada.  Sgaawaay K’uuna tells the cultural story of a man’s descent and metamorphosis into becoming a supernatural wild man (Gaagiixiid in Haida), and the community that brings him back to humanity.

Costumes were all woven, dyed, and sewn custom for the film with the expertise of master Haida weavers.  Designed in consultation with the Haida Nation.
